Mooky Coin – Cautiously Optimistic

I want to get the hard stuff out of the way first. I find Mooky to be a little spooky, and my language use is very intentional. If you’re a Mooky fan, you might want to skip the first couple of sections. On the outside, the upcoming Mooky launch appears to be everything one would look for in determining the next 100x or 1000x meme project:

  • Likeable character
  • Well-designed website
  • Social media presence
  • Excellent sponsored YouTube coverage
  • Links to KYC and Audit
  • Over $900k raised through presales

If the outside were enough, I’d drop several coins into their upcoming launch, but I’m too nosey to take things at face value. I’ll explain in a bit.

That’s One Cute Monkey

I discovered Mooky by accident. I think one of their presale Twitter posts was retweeted by a person that I follow. Feeling a bit of instant FOMO, I clicked the post. My FOMO doubled when I saw the “MOOKY20” code that promised a 20% better rate. Man this was some effective marketing! I finally get to their website at mooky.io and saw that I was about to enter presale round eight, and the presale meter was extremely close to the end! I couldn’t hesitate any longer.

Click “buy Mooky”

Is this Eth or BSC? Wait, I can pay with either?

Come on Trust Wallet! Why won’t it connect? A new version…ugh!

Connect through app browser.

Finally, let’s buy some Mooky Coin!

But wait…engage common sense. “What do you actually know about this token?”

I know very little.

Take it easy big boy! Go light and don’t lose your head.

What’s With the Monkey Business?

I didn’t lose my head on Mooky, but I came close. I don’t consider myself any wiser than other investors. I do like to protect the few coins that I have, so I tend to look for reasons not to invest rather than reasons to invest. Mooky definitely has some red flags, or to state it a different way, it’s a few bananas short of a bunch.

For an upcoming launch that reportedly raised over $900k in presales, there should be a strong social media following and lots of engagement. There is engagement, but it’s not authentic. Mooky’s @MOOKYcoin Twitter account has 11k followers (a drop from 13k), but a closer look shows followers from paid accounts. These followers usually little to no profile description, a terrible following to follower ratio, and tend to only like or retweet other accounts without ever posting an original tweet. Buying followers is not uncommon in crypto, but a token with a reported $900k raised should have an organic following that supports such. Checking the likes and retweets of Mooky’s posts raised similar concerns. Engagement seems to be limited to mainly purchased likes and retweets. I wanted to see if this was the case with their Telegram channel. It shows close to 4,000 members, but oddly, the member list is hidden from view. When clicked, only admin accounts are shown. Again, buying followers and members is not unusual, but it does cause me to pause and question – Are things too good to be true?

KYC is a good start, but I’d prefer a doxxed team, especially since Mooky claims to have such a worthy cause. I get that the cryptospace can be toxic, but if appearances are true, the creators of Mooky Coin have good intentions – community and charity.

Hear No Evil. See No Evil. Speak No Evil.

Mooky does have potential – a lot of potential. The concept and design are top notch. The character and website are fun and inviting. Everything about the design makes potential buyers want to hold Mooky Coin ($MOOK) and see this thing skyrocket. Their charitable efforts to revegetate areas by planting trees is awesome, and who wouldn’t want to be a part of something so noble?

There are no less than a dozen sponsored YouTube videos dedicated to Mooky reviews and promotions. The team seems to prefer working through YouTube influencers over marketing through other channels. I suspect that, if accurate, the majority of presale investors came by way of YouTube. This is encouraging in a sense. It’s a lot more convenient to find a YouTube video on a token than it is to comb through old tweets.

Buying followers and likes, sponsoring articles and YouTube reviews is clear evidence that there is some expectation of a return. Money will be made on Mooky, but who’s making the money is the big question. I want this to work out for presale and early investors, but be cautious and expect there to be an initial rise and presale dump. Personally, I took a very light position in presale. I’ll likely move to claim my tokens and take profits. If the expected rise and drop occurs, I may choose to take another position. My apprehensiveness may put me in the minority, but as they say, “One monkey don’t stop no show.”
